Some treatments require donor tissue, such as a cornea or a heart valve from a deceased donor. There may be a waiting list for this.

In the Netherlands, there are waiting lists for corneas and heart valves. How long you have to wait depends on your medical situation and which tissue you need. For other tissues, such as blood vessels, bone, cartilage, tendons, and skin, there is usually no waiting list. Doctors request this tissue directly from the tissue bank.
