Help with your choice in the Donor Register
Everyone in the Netherlands aged 18 and over is in the Donor Register. In it, you indicate whether or not you want to be an organ and tissue donor after your death. On this page, we help you make your choice.
What is the Donor Register?
The Donor Register is a national registry where you record whether you want to donate organs and tissues after your death. Everyone aged 18 and over in the Netherlands is in the Donor Register. Have you not submitted a choice yourself? Then you will be registered as 'no objection to organ donation'. You can always view and change your choice at Donorregister.nl.
What choices are there in the Donor Register?
If you submit a choice in the Donor Register, you can choose from four options. If you do not fill in a choice yourself, 'no objection to organ donation' will be listed next to your name. After your death, you can then become an organ and tissue donor.
Choices in the Donor Register:
- Yes, I want to be a donor
- No, I do not want to be a donor
- My partner or family will decide after my death
- I designate one person to decide after my death
Choosing for the first time
When you turn 18 or have lived in the Netherlands for three years, you will receive a letter from the government about organ and tissue donation. The letter contains a request to fill in your choice in the Donor Register. Sometimes people find it difficult to decide whether or not they want to become a donor after they die. On this page, you can read more about what can help you make that choice.
